Welcome to Year 5!
The Final Frontier
This term we are learnind about the Earth and Space. Year 5 pupils have all become space cadets and their challenge is to find a planet which can support life.
To help us we visited the National Space Centre on Thursday 24th October.
Space Cadets recounts of the day will be coming to this site very shortly.

Visits to Malcolm Sargent School
All the children in Year 5 will have the opportunity to visit children at
Malcolm Sargent School on Stamford and to spend the day lwarning along side them.
Visits will take place on Monday 11th November and Monday 25th November.
More details to follow shortly.
Your child will develop their understanding of the concept of risk and how to consider ways of responding to physical, social and emotional risk. They will learn about positive and negative consequences of taking risks in situations which might be physically, socially or emotionally risky. They will consider that some situations contain a range of risks and learn how to evaluate these situations. They will discuss situations where they have responsibility for their own safety, as well as those where they might need help from an adult. They will explore strategies to reduce risk, including the ‘Stop, Decide, Do’ strategy, and practise using them. They will discuss where pressure might come from in a risky situation and how to cope with this. They will be involved in the process of Risk Benefit Assessment, for example when planning for a school trip or outdoor activity. They will revisit their ‘Networks of Support’ which they will have developed earlier in the year and consider when they might need to approach an adult for support and how they might get their attention. They will also learn about organisations which might provide help and support. They will consider supportive responses when someone shares a problem with them. They will learn about the main places where accidents happen, reasons for them and ways of preventing or reducing them. They will learn about and practise some basic first aid procedures and learn how to make an emergency call.
In Year 5, we use Education City for our home learning, as well as the occasional printed activity. Any children who don't have the internet at home, are invited to join our Home Learning ICT club. All children in Year 5 have their own log-in details - if you forget, see a teacher to remind you.
We encourage children to drink plenty of water during the day, as it helps with concentration. Please bring a transparent bottle with a sports-style pull-up lid.
Remember to read every night!
Remember to complete your homelearning!
Remember to learn your times tables!
On Tuesday 19th February and Wednesday 20th February 2013, 16 children from Year 5 visited London. Below are photographs of the children enjoying the sunshine at Hampton Court Palace, a night flight on the London Eye and a very cold boat trip on the River Thames.
These children are now in Year 6 but we have the opportunity to take part in this visit again.
The dates are: Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th February 2014.
If you would like your child to attend, please complete the slip on the letter that children in Year 5
brought home last week.
There is a link to a copy of the letter at the bottom of this page.
