Spring Term

This term we are learning about the impact of World War 2. Our theme is called 'Dig for Victory.' We are hoping to end our theme with a VE day party. We are also going to be growing our own vegetables.

The Imperial War Museum: Duxford

In January, we visited the Imperial War Museum in Duxford. It was a facinating day. The highlight was dressing up as soldiers and taking part in the D day landings.

Visit to Malcolm Sargent School

Our visits to Malcolm Sargent School have continued this term. The next visits will be on Monday 25th February and Monday 4th February. We are making friends and learning a lot from each other.

Personal Development

In this unit children will review their safety rules, practise problem solving, develop strategies for resisting peer group pressure and also how to recognise and deal with risk. They will also explore the need to look beneath the surface, and not be misled by information and appearance. They will identify those people who they trust, and this will be used to develop a Network of Support. They will be able to assess how safe they feel in the school and grounds. They will be able to define honesty, and practise this by exploring some dilemmas. Children will be able to identify and name body parts, including intimate body parts and understand the rules about personal boundaries, including knowing the difference between ‘yes’ and ‘no’ touches and when to tell. They will demonstrate that they can assess different levels of risk.

General Information

In Year 5, we use Education City for our home learning, as well as the occasional printed activity.  Any children who don't have the internet at home, are invited to join our Home Learning ICT club. All children in Year 5 have their own log-in details - if you forget, see a teacher to remind you.

We encourage children to drink plenty of water during the day, as it helps with concentration. Please bring a transparent bottle with a sports-style pull-up lid.

Remember to read every night!
Remember to complete your homelearning!

Remember to learn your times tables!

On Tuesday 19th February and Wednesday 20th February, 16 children from Year 5 visited London. Below are photographs of the children enjoying the sunshine at Hampton Court Palace, a night flight on the London Eye and a very cold boat trip on the River Thames.
